How the SAT tests this skill

The digital SAT keeps a compact geometry list: angle relationships with parallel lines, triangle similarity and congruence, right-triangle trig (SOH-CAH-TOA), circle equations, and area/volume. There is no proof-writing — every question reduces to setting up one relationship and solving.

Similar triangles are the test's favorite hard question: two triangles sharing an angle, with the ratio hidden in a word problem about shadows, ramps, or scale models.

  • Angle relationships, parallel lines, and polygons
  • Similar triangles and proportional reasoning
  • Right-triangle trigonometry and the Pythagorean theorem
  • Circle equations, arcs, and sector area
Pro tip: The reference sheet with every formula is one click away during the test — but the students who finish on time are the ones who know sin, cos, and the special right triangles cold and never open it.
